Buying a forklift is a real commitment, and the South Coast has plenty of work to justify one — the Marburg factories and merchants around Port Shepstone, the construction and retail trade in Margate, and the sugar and agriculture around Scottburgh all keep machines busy year-round.
Owning starts to make sense over hiring when a machine is working most days rather than now and then. The catch with used forklifts is that a low price often hides a tired hydraulic system, a worn mast, or a corrosion problem you only find later — and on this coast, salt air makes corrosion a real question worth asking.
Every unit we sell is refurbished and tested in the same workshop that services the machines we hire and repair, so we know what we're selling. We handle all the common makes — Toyota, TCM, Hyster, Yale, Linde, Mitsubishi, Hyundai, Heli — in diesel, LPG and electric, and if we don't have the right machine on the floor we'll tell you honestly and try to source it rather than push you onto the wrong unit.

What to check on a used forklift
Whether you buy from us or elsewhere, these are the things worth looking at.
Mast, chains & hydraulics
Lift and lower under load. Watch for drift, jerky lift, worn chains, and oil weeping from rams and hoses — these are the expensive repairs.
Tyres & corrosion
Check tyre wear and the frame, connectors and battery terminals for coastal corrosion. Match the tyre type to where it'll actually work.
